Wales’ largest fortress, the 13th-century Caerphilly Castle, one of the greatest surviving medieval castles in Britain. With its massive gatehouses and water defences, its design heavily influenced the course of medieval architecture and is one of the truly great strongholds of medieval Europe. The Brecon Beacons National Park is a jewel in the crown of the UK's protected landscapes. It boasts some of the most spectacular upland formations in southern Britain, yet still remains one of the UK's best kept secrets. We travel along the mountain road through the village of Ystradfellte, descend into the head of the scenic Senni valley. The tour delivers diverse landscapes from lush wooded valleys and gentle rolling hills to craggy mountains and imposing reservoirs, and grazing Welsh Black cattle, Welsh Mountain ponies and plenty of sheep.

Lunch stop in Brecon, a visit to the cathedral, then to the Libanus Visitors' Centre, built on the ancient common of Mynydd Illtud, offering superb views over the common to the Beacons and Fforest Fawr, and Pen-y-Fan, the highest mountain in southern Britain.

The historical market town of Brecon, positioned on the banks of the River Usk and confluence of the Rivers Honddu and Tarrell Brecon evokes its historical past in many ways. Grand Georgian architecture lies around nearly every corner of its narrow winding streets, its ancient cathedral dating back from Norman times, and home to the terminus of the Monmouth and Brecon Canal.

Castell Coch, (The Red Castle), the former hunting lodge of the Marquis of Bute, sited on a craggy limestone escarpment in the quaint village of Tongwynlais. The Victorian architect William Burges was commissioned by the 3rd Marquis of Bute to re-create a castle from the earlier foundations of a medieval structure. Stone cobbled courtyard, exquisite wooded carvings cover the interior, and lavishly furnished rooms. Guided tour of the castle. (Exterior castle tour only in January & February 2010).

Queen still rule! Forty-years on from their foundation the band are being discovered by yet another generation and their popularity with original fans is undiminished.

Queen are a London band. Formed here, cut their teeth here, recorded their music here, played their seminal gigs here, lived, partied and in Freddie’s case, died here. Our memorable tour focuses on landmark sites and locations in the band’s history. Of all our tours, this one probably takes you through the prettiest and wealthiest of London’s neighbourhoods, and following their journey from college kids to ascending rock royalty’s throne, fittingly takes us past a lot of London’s real royal sites like Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace.

You’ll see the university where the band was formed; the famous west London art college where Freddie went; the two studios where they most recorded; band member’s homes, including the house in Kensington where Freddie lived and died; take a drink in their favourite pub; and visit famed gigs sites like ‘The Pheasantry’ on Kings Road, Hyde Park, Wembley Stadium (‘Live Aid’) and The Royal Albert Hall. You‘ll also see locations where some of the great videos were shot and see the site of the last ever Queen performance.

This memorable day can have the perfect end by attending a performance of ‘We Will Rock You’ at London’s Dominion Theatre, where you’ll also discover a great Queen photographic exhibition.

Throughout our day we make full use of our DVD and CD playing facilities to watch and listen to historic performances. And with an expert Queen guide to accompany you throughout, you can expect a memorable day of historical information and fun!

Westminster Abbey and Parliament Square.
The tour begins with a panoramic drive around Parliament Square to see Westminster Abbey, where many of our Kings, Queens, Statesmen, poets and writers are buried. See Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

London's West End, Buckingham Palace and the Changing of the Guard
Enjoy a fascinating panoramic tour, seeing Trafalgar Square, Downing Street, London's Theatre District and Piccadilly Circus.
Then to Buckingham Palace to see the colourful ceremony of the Changing of the Guard. We will then have a chance to enjoy lunch at a traditional London Pub.

Windsor Castle
This afternoon we visit Windsor Castle, the largest and oldest occupied Castle in the world. Its proud, strong walls dominate the delightful town that has grown around the castle over the years. Generations of Kings and Queens have conducted their business here and enjoyed its grounds, and you get a real sense of British history breathing through the walls of Windsor Castle, first founded by William the Conqueror a day’s march from London. You’ll see the lavishly decorated State Apartments containing priceless furniture in glorious colours and St George’s Chapel, home to the 14th Century Order of the Royal Garter, our senior chivalric order.

Runnymede
Departing Windsor we make our way to the magnificent Runnymede, where King John met his barons in 1215 and agreed to seal the Magna Carta that was to have a profound influence on rights and freedoms, not only in England, but across much of the civilised world.

We will also see the memorial to John F Kennedy on an acre of land given to America by the people of Britain.


* Occasionally there may not be a Changing of the Guard, on these occasions we will visit Horseguards Parade.
** Viewing at Windsor Castle is restricted on Sundays. On rare occasions the State Apartments may be closed and we will visit Queen Mary's Dolls House and St Georges Chapel.

Your tour begins by coach, bringing you through the Piazza della Republica with its Fountain of the Naiad. Continuing en route to the Vatican, you will also drive by the bath of Diocletian, Piazza Venezia, Largo Argentina, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the famous Castle S. Angelo, and St. Peter’s Basilica.
Upon arrival at the Vatican Walls, your guide will get your tickets and lead you through the Vatican Museums, taking the beautiful Spiral staircase. You will continue through the Gallery of the Tapestries and the Gallery of the Geographical Maps before arriving in the famous Sistine Chapel with its magnificent fresco of the Last Judgment by Michelangelo.

In the autumn of 1888, a number of brutal murders took place in Whitechapel, which were to shock the world and terrorise the streets of London for years. Our Ripperologist will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the East End of London where you will hear about the horrific murders that remain unsolved to this day. There will be time to leave the black cab and walk through the cobbled alleys and see the murder sites. You will be told of the gruesome way the women were murdered, and introduced to the suspects including leather apron, the Jewish Boot finisher, George Chapman, and Francis Tumblety, the Irish-American who had recently discovered his wife had made her fortune from prostitution. Come and decipher the clues yourself!

In the morning begin with a bucolic visit to Claude Monet’s gardens at Giverny. You will discover a wide variety of flowers and plants similar to those growing there at the time when the painter lived with his family. The gardens became, in fact, a great source of inspiration particularly the Nympheas which the visitors can admire nowadays in his studio.

Lunch at the Moulin de Fourges restaurant, located 10 minutes away from Giverny on the border of the Epte river, surrounded by poplars.

The afternoon is dedicated to the guided visit of Versailles castle, the royal apartments, the Hall of Mirrors and the Queen’s apartments. Free time for a walk in the gardens "à la française" surrounding the park.

PLEASE NOTE:
During the summer months when the fountains are playing (Saturdays, Sundays, and French bank holidays) there will be an extra fee of 8 Euros (approx $10 US) to visit the gardens. Tickets for the gardens will be available at the Gray Line bus terminal before the departure of the tour.

Ghosts of London
This evening we will show you the sinister and ghostly side of London. The house in Berkeley Square, where happenings took place, so terrifying that for most of the 19th century it was known as 'the most hountúed house in London'. Hear about the Theatre Royal Drury Lane where a distressed man in 18th century attire is regularly seen striding backstage. Shudder at the tale of the demon barber of Fleet Street, Sweeney Todd, and has accomplice Mrs Lovatt who was said to have baked pies from the flesh of his victims, selling them to unsuspecting customers.

Jack the Ripper
Into the notorious East End of London, where we tread in the footsteps of the infamous Jack The Ripper. We'll visit the sites where, in 1888, he hunted and gruesomely murdered five London prostitutes. We visit four of the murder sites and our Ripperologist will run through the list of suspects, a true Victorian whodunit.

This is a combination coach/walking tour and will finish at a traditional pub near Trafalgar Square.
