In the autumn of 1888, a number of brutal murders took place in Whitechapel, which were to shock the world and terrorise the streets of London for years. Our Ripperologist will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the East End of London where you will hear about the horrific murders that remain unsolved to this day. There will be time to leave the black cab and walk through the cobbled alleys and see the murder sites. You will be told of the gruesome way the women were murdered, and introduced to the suspects including leather apron, the Jewish Boot finisher, George Chapman, and Francis Tumblety, the Irish-American who had recently discovered his wife had made her fortune from prostitution. Come and decipher the clues yourself!

On arrival at Gare du Nord, you will be able to join the Hop-on / Hop-off tour of Paris. The day is yours to explore this wonderful city. We will depart Rome by deluxe motorcoach along the Autostrada del Sole. After passing the Castelli Romani- the wine-producing hill towns to the southeast of Rome- and see hillsides completely covered by vineyards, we will cross the region of Ciociaria. We’ll have a view (from the coach) of the Abbey of Montecassino, which was completely rebuilt after World War II.

Upon arrival in Naples we will enjoy a view of the city.

Next we will continue on to Pompeii, where after lunch in a local restaurant, we will visit the excavations of this famous Roman city that was completely destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D.

We will depart for Rome at approximately 5:30pm.

Return arrival in Rome is scheduled for 9:30pm - traffic permitting. Travelers will be returned to their hotels or immediate vicinity.

We begin our day travelling across the Chiltern Hills to Oxford, the 'City of Dreaming Spires,' whose hushed courtyards have inspired generations of scholars including Bill Clinton and writers, Lewis Carroll who wrote 'Alice in Wonderland', C.S. Lewis who wrote 'Chronicles of Narnia' and the immortal J.R.R. Tolkein, author of 'Lord of the Rings'. On the walking tour you'll visit Christ Church college, where Harry Potter scenes were filmed, see the Bodleian Library and the picture-perfect college courtyards for which Oxford is justifiably famous.

Cambridge
Cambridge is a wonderful mixture of the everyday and the extraordinary, a living city that has shaped history and today reflects the best of historic and contemporary life. It was the inspiration for Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton and many of the Monty Python gang. We will have a guided tour of the magnificent chapel of Kings College, founded in 1441, and a fascinating walking tour of a city filled with beautiful buildings and historical quirks, including the famous 'Bridge of Sighs'.

Cardiff Bay is the regeneration area created by the Cardiff Barrage which impounded the River Taff and River Ely to form a new 500 acre freshwater lake around the former dockland area. Enjoy a short walking tour and discover its maritime heritage, marvel at innovative architecture, alongside historical buildings.

The picturesque village of St Fagans is home to one of Europe's largest open-air museums. St Fagans National History Museum, set in 100 acres of countryside with over forty buildings that have been moved brick by brick from across Wales and re-erected in the museum. Buildings include an elegant mansion house, a quarryman's cottage, farmhouses, a terrace of six cottages, a toll-house and a Celtic village. We use the Castle Gardens entrance to nearby St. Fagans Castle for guided castle tour. Free time to explore the stunning formal gardens and buildings.

Lunch stop at Cowbridge, nestled in the heart of the rural Vale, steeped in heritage and its historic past is reflected in its present buildings which add to the interest and character of the town.

Llantwit Major, a town steeped in history and still retains an air of antiquity with its narrow streets and quaint stone cottages. St Illtud's Church, built on the site of the famous monastery of St Illtud founded in the 5th century, contains one of the most significant collections of Celtic stones in Wales. An inn reputed to date back to the 11th century formerly a banking house for the last Welsh Prince of Glamorgan.

Southerndown, which is part of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast to the beach for a closer look at the layered limestone cliffs some 335 millions years old. They strangely resemble giant steps into the sea and give testament to the treacherous nature of a coast once infamous for its wrecks and smugglers. The coastline was the design inspiration for welsh architect Jonathan Adams, who was commissioned to build Wales Millennium Centre at Cardiff Bay.

Nearby is Ogmore-by-sea and Wales' tallest sand dunes, which in 1961 was the location for filming scenes for Lawrence of Arabia. Nestling in the beautiful Ewenny Estuary is the original earthworks of the imposing 11th century Ogmore Castle. From the castle we cross the ancient stepping stones (optional) and Swing Bridge to Merthyr Mawr, an idyllic little settlement with an outstanding collection of thatched dwellings, beautifully positioned around an old village green. Nearby is Ogmore-by-sea and Europe's tallest sand dunes, which in 1961 was the location for filming scenes for Lawrence of Arabia. Many passengers take on the challenge to walk up to the top of the dunes!

This excursion takes you north of Amsterdam, to the edge of the river Zaan, where you visit the windmill village 'de Zaanse Schans', with its characteristic green wooden houses. On the turn of the 18th century this district was an industrial area with approximately 700 windmills in use. In this day and age there are only five left. We will pay a visit to a windmill and a wooden shoe manufactor. Entrance to the windmill is included. Before returning to Amsterdam, we take a stroll through the medieval town of Edam.
